What Are The Best Activities For The Personality Of Your Child

Submitted by: Marzena Kmiecik

At Toykidz we celebrate individuality and uniqueness of every child yet professionals talk about personality types that might help you choose the right toys while you shop!

The basic personality types of kids are Shy/Thoughtful, Spirited/Aggressive, and Easy/Happy. These three general categories, however, can be further broken down into several playful personalities, including adventurer, all-star, artist, builder’s apprentice, cowboy, crafty kid, entertainer, artist, nature kid, playful chef, pirate, princess, smarty pants, soldier, and zookeeper. By knowing the personality type of your child, you will be more successful at suggesting activities they will enjoy.

Let’s look at the four basic groups of playful kid personalities.

All-Star, Entertainer- These are kids who enjoy being in the spotlight. If they aren’t putting a magic show on for their family in the living room, they are entertaining shoppers in line at the grocery store with their own choreographed song and dance number.

The best types of activities for these kids allow them to showcase their talents, while expending a good portion of their pent up energy. Such activities include music/dance lessons, sports participation, and school/church performances.

Artist, Builder’s Apprentice, Crafty Kid, Playful Chef- Creating makes these kids happy. They may like to draw, paint, sculpt, build, or cook, and thankfully with the wide variety of creative toys available today, there will be a multitude of activities parents can enjoy along with their children.

Activities:

The best activities/toys to keep in this child’s toy box are coloring/painting books, crayons, markers, water color paints, blank paper, play dough, pretend kitchen set (oven, pans, etc), pretend builders set (saw, hammer, etc), building Lego s and Lincoln logs.

Adventurer, Nature Kid, Zookeeper, Smarty Pants- Curiosity is what fuels these kids imagination. They are known to occasionally bring bugs and/or reptiles into the house, which are often met by surprised parents who direct these little discoveries to go back outside. These kids are fascinated with animals, trees, science, the human body, and the desire to know how everything works. Their favorite sentence is, Did you know…

Activities:

Do you see your kid s eye sparkle when you get tickets to a museum or the local zoo, suggest going hiking or just taking your dog for a walk? These kids might be most fascinated with educational toys that teach as they play. Telescope/microscope, animal farm, growing toys, butterfly net, or kites.

Cowboy, Pirate, Soldier, Princess- These are the types of kids with very vivid imaginations. You could give them a paper hat and cardboard box, and they would busy themselves all day playing make-believe. These kids particularly enjoy when a parent or friend plays along with their imagination, such as in playing house, soldiers, cowboys and Indians, pirates, or the princess and the frog.

Activities:

While the imaginations of these kids, alone, will keep them busy, they will enjoy toys that allow them to become more involved with their imagination, such as toy guns, fairy wands, swords, hats, and various jewelry.

Help foster your kids playtime by allowing them to pursue the activities that most engage their interests and imaginations.
